Nikon Teams with Industry Partners to Support SEMI High Tech University
Nikon places great value on the opportunity to give back to our industry by providing support for next-generation engineers and leaders, and are pleased to continue our support for SEMI High Tech University. Last fall, students from Bay Area high schools in California attended SEMI High Tech U, an industry-driven math and science-based career exploration program for high school students.
SEMI High Tech U provides participants with an intensive multi-day introduction to the high tech industry, highlights potential career paths, and outlines the education requirements to meet their goals. Students and teachers participate in hands-on activities that focus on topics including statistics, nanotechnology, solar and alternative energy technologies, electronics and mathematics.
During the three-day program, students attended classes taught by volunteer industry professionals at the campuses of KLA-Tencor and San Jose State University. The classes serve as a platform for explaining the technologies used to create microchips that power virtually every electronic device made today, while also highlighting the educational pathways that lead to rewarding careers in the high-tech industry. Principle sponsors and hosts of the fall 2012 program included Nikon, KLA-Tencor, and Rambus.
"Continually evolving technology is an inherent part of young peoples' lives. SEMI High Tech U is an excellent opportunity for them to experience how semiconductors make that possible, and to learn how they can contribute to future innovation." said Hamid Zarringhalam, Executive Vice President of Nikon Precision Inc. "Nikon is pleased to be able to support SEMI High Tech U with funding and volunteer instructors for this invaluable educational event."
